One day you take a look at a cartoon show that everyone is talking about, and you find it pretty nice. Then, out of curiosity, you look up what the fandom is like. You discover fan comics, music, video channels. And you like it as well! Soon enough, you enjoy episodes analysis, parodies, inside jokes, you spot references and memes, and you feel like you're part of a sub culture! You have a list of artists that you are fond of, webcomics you like to check out, youtuber you're subscribed to… You've even read a bunch of fan-fictions, dammit, and you've found some of them quite remarkable! As for the show itself, you're still watching it, you still like it. It's not the best thing ever, but you've just got attached to the characters. Mostly thanks for the community of fans around it.
But you never talk about it to anyone. Not even inside the fandom itself! You kept that as some sort of secret. Looking at fans sharing their passion, but never taking part in it. Because it's not a big deal, you think. You have plenty of hobbies in your life, this is just a silly distraction.
So the years pass, you kinda move on, not really paying attention to what the fandom produces anymore. You still watch the show, though, out of habit, and follow some artists from the early days. Then the show ends. And, actually, it's still not a big deal. You're okay, you were never actually a big fan, and you're not the kind of person who enjoys conventions. But… After all this time, it would be nice to express yourself. To exist, just a tiny bit, in this fandom that gave you so much long ago. At least, you want to thank them.
So you gather all your courage, and take flight.

Update 10/02/2020
Changed the words at the end to keep them relevant today. It also makes the joke way less obscure! For the record, the previous version said “NEXT FEBRUARY”. You may understand how it wouldn't mean anything now and later!
